On The Ranch...

Horseback Riding

[Reservations required. Please inquire when making your lodging request]
Horseback trail rides provide a relaxing tour of the ranch pastures, streams, and forest. Horseback rides are available during the summer months to adults and children ages 7 years and up. Ranch guests receive a 20% discount. Reservations required

Fishing  
The main ranch pond is regularly stocked, and guests are required to pay $3 per fish caught in the pond. Stream fishing, requiring a fishing license, is limited to fly fishing with a barbless hook and is catch-and-release only.

Barbecues

Weekly summer barbeques feature ribs, brisket, and chicken as well as fresh greens salad, potato salad, warm dinner rolls, and homemade peach cobbler for dessert. Listen to guitar-playing and singing as you enjoy your meal, and roast marshmallows by the campfire as the sun sets over the mountains.

Meeting Barn  
A large meeting barn (capacity 60) is available by reservation to ranch guests, including family reunions and wedding parties. 

Marshmallow Roasts  
Marshmallow roasts are a popular way of ending the night after the weekly barbeques. 

Tetherball 
Tetherball is centrally located on the ranch and provides a fun way for kids from different cabins to play together. There is also a playscape nearby. 

Hiking to Ridge  
A relatively short hike up to the east ridge of the ranch provides far-reaching views of the area and the ranch and a nice perch to watch the sunset. 

River Walks  
The streams and rivers offer the relaxing sounds of nature and abundant recreational opportunities. 

In Cuchara...

The Village of Cuchara is within walking distance from the Ranch and offers authentic western ambience with old fashion boardwalks. While you're here, you want to check out everything Cuchara has to offer:

The world famous Dog Bar & Grill features live music on summer weekends, delicious cheeseburgers, great pizza and salads.

The Timbers Restaurant featuring steaks, seafoods and salads in a rustic fine dining atmosphere.

The Brewed Awakening Coffee Shop offering breakfasts in the morning, along with The BarnYard Ice Cream Shop serving up your favorite Blue Belle ice cream and yogurt.

The Cuchara Recreation Hall

Cuchara Association's Recreation Hall is the site for many of the activities planned by the Cuchara Valley Rec Program. This group of volunteers offers guided hikes, special kids programs and Bingo weekly during the summer

Next to the recreation hall is a playground with a playscape, tennis courts, and basketball court.


Drive The Scenic Highway of Legends

A drive up the Scenic Highway of Legends offers many opportunities to view elk and bighorn sheep, to hike and fish around several nearby lakes and explore the surrounding mountains.


In La Veta...

The small town of La Veta offers many recreational and cultural opportunities for families, golfers and art lovers of all ages and is located a short drive, 10 miles north of the Ranch.


Grandote Peaks Golf Club

Grandote Peaks is a beautiful, Weiskopf/Morrish design with 18 holes carved through the trees and set along side the Cucharas River. Four sets of tees on every tee box offers a challenge for every skill level. The course is open the public. Tee Times are suggested.


SPACe Gallery / Spanish Peaks Arts

The Spanish Peaks Arts Council (SPACe) promotes and encourages educational events in the arts in the Spanish Peaks region of southern Colorado. The Gallery is located at 132 Ryus Avenue and open select days during the week.


La Veta Fine Art Gallery

Located in the heart of La Veta, the La Veta Fine Art Gallery offers a a diverse range of fine artworks in a vibrant and inviting space. Open to the public daily during the summer season from 10:30 to 5pm.


Francisco Center for the Performing Arts

The Francisco Center for the Performing Arts and the resident theatrical troupe, the Spanish Peaks Players present several shows throughout the year, many of which are written by local playrights and of course, performed by all local talent. Tickets are available prior to each event and sell out quickly.

Rio Grande Scenic Railroad

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad offers excursion trains and special event trips leaving La Veta and Alamosa throughout the summer season. Their Summer Concert Series begins in Mid June and takes passengers to a natural amphitheatre high atop Fir Pass, for a full afternoon of music and fun. Other events are scheduled throughout the year. Come join the fun riding the Rio Grande!
